Invalid XP COA RRS feed

  • Question

  • My product key has been suddenly invalidated and seems to have been changed from the original factory install key from Windows Genuine Diagnostic Tool.  The Windows Product Key Update Tool yields an invalid key and i'm not sure how a total system reboot would help anything if the Windows diagnostics tool says it is invalid.

  • I would recommend a full-reinstallation of the operating system. The product key update tool doesn't allow product key switching if there are too many errorneous files on the current system.

  • Triachus,

Now just to make sure I understand you correctly, the Key in the system and the key on the COA do not match. You have already attempted to use the Product Key update tool (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50346&clcid=0x409) which told you that It is an invalid Key?

    Please let me know,

  • Yes, I have attempted the Product Key update tool to no avail.  I was not able to continue because the "key was invalid" or something.

I'm not sure how rare this problem is, but quite a few people have been telling me that they have been recieving the same error message.  Rebooting seems a bit severe considering I doubt anything would compound the situation.

    Thanks
