I noticed this problem when I went to log onto my domain this morning. I couldn't switch to a user account from the domain, so I had to log onto a local account. I looked around for a while and noticed that the Properties window indicated that my Windows license hadn't been activated. I know that it has because yesterday, I activated it online. This is not the first time this has happened on this machine. Yesterday, I encountered the same thing, but assumed that I had forgotten to activate it, as I was assembling several pc's at the same time. I can see that the folders for the domain accounts are still there, along with program folders for previously installed programs, but which aren't listed in All Programs. I don't want to waste another license on this problem.

    Thanks.

  • Both those reports look OK to me.

If you attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate it should pass, so far as I can see.

The question is obviously then, does the validation/activation hold?

If you get any further problem on this machine, please immediately run another MGADiag report, and post that, together with some idea of recent software changes, and we'll take another look.

  • I'm noticing some stuff after looking over this info in the diagnostic.

The license is showing that it is a KMS Client version of the OS. I've been using a MAK key to do installs, since I don't have KMS setup on my domain controller. Could that be the cause? I have several other computers identical to this one that have not experienced this issue, though.

  • Please use slmgr.vbs /ato to activate and update KMS client information in order to update values.

You have a KMS license installed. A kms license must activated with a kms server.

looks like you need to change to your MAK key if you don't have a KMS server.

  • Right. That's what I did when I installed the OS. I activated with a MAK key, twice. That's what I don't get. I had activated it (with MAK) and joined it to my domain and came back the next day and it was like it never happened.

I'm installing from a volume edition of Windows 7, which is defaulted to a KMS installation. But this article seems to indicate that the method I followed will change the installation from KMS to MAK.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793408.aspx

The weird thing is that I have set up a least 8 identical other PCs the exact same way and have never seen this.

  • Please change the Key again to the MAK Key, activate and immediately run another MGADiag report - post the results

then reboot twice and run another MGADiag report - post the results.

It may show what is happening

  • Results from immediately after changing to MAK key. Edited to remove links so I could post results.
