Repetitive BOOT UP problem in Windows XP (SP3) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Dell Dimension 4550 Pentium 4 with A01 Bios Version, has a pattern of repetitive issue of  freezing after every 3 months. I upgraded the hard drive - infact added new hard drive :C- with 250GB and made this as primary drive to boot up, the old hard drive is still there but inactive as drive D. OS was upgraded from Windows XP home edition to XP prof (SP2- hopefully updated now with SP-3 - not sure thought ?) with genuine OEM pack done professionally.  Have re-installed Windows XP prof three times in last 10 months now. Have Norton Anti-virus 2010,latest anti-malware to prevent any virus/adware issues. All have failed. I am not too hi-tech in OS. Cannot boot up in Safe mode either. If I use the XP PROF Cd to boot from CD,  can I still recover my data. How do I boot and recover the data before again cleaning up , have paid a prof so many dollars in the repairs that it is not worth it now. Pleasssssse Help.
