CRM outlook addin and HTTPS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

My question seems to be simple, but I couldn't find any solution for now.

Is it possible to use CRM 2011 client for outlook with https address. And if yes, then how?

I would publish my CRM site and want to use the client also.

The CRM site is on http. I can publish it with TMG so I can reach the server from the internet by HTTPS. I also can use the client from the internal network.

I've published the 5555 port, and if I also publish the port 80 I can succesfully connect to the server with the client from the internet, but it's not enought secure for me.

I've tought about configuring the CRM to use Claim-Base auth. and also configure it to be "internet facing" but my problem is that if I enter an address starts with HTTPS at the clients configuration it says that "The server address (URL) is not valid." so it looks like it can't handle https address only http. Is it possible?

Please if someone did this with an on-premise installation let me know!

  • Hi Gecsa,

It is not possible to use http with IFD.

Make sure to configure IFD properly and try to access the Discovery services from the https://dev.domain.com url form Internet.

And use Discovery Service URL if organization URL doesnt work to Configure Outlook client.

  • Dear Khaja,

    Thanks for your reply.

My problem is that I can't insert HTTPS to the outlook client. It says that "The server address (URL) is not valid." It seems to me that it can't handle https address in the server adress field. I do not use IFD now, I've published CRM throught TMG, that translates HTTPS back to HTTP for the CRM server.

So internal adress (the only binding): http://crm2011.domain.hu and external adress https://crm2011.domain.hu (domain is splitted, tmg forwards to --> http://...). The client works with the  http://crm2011.domain.hu adress from internal and if I publish port 80 and 5555 it works from external too with the same http adress, but I want the data flow to be encrypted between the clients from the internet and at least between TMG or the CRM server.
