New Install of One Care instead of renewing issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a one care user and can say have never had any problems with it since the beta came out. My one year coverage just expired on 4/16/08. I did not renew it due to the fact at $49.00 I thought for 1 pc was / is expensive. I did purchase a brand new one care at staples on sale from $39.00 with a $20.00 rebate, so cost is $ 19.00 much more sense to me.

But my question is this, I uninstalled one care after it expired, and went to install new original copy off CD

but never asked me for new cd key number and the icon is red advising me to renew. What did I do or not due here?

So at present it says " status" at risk

    thank you for any help

  • You did not need to uninstall/reinstall. You simply needed to renew with the retail key.

Now that you reinstalled, by activating with the same LiveID, the new install inherited the subscription status of the existing subscription and you were not prompted for payment or a retail PIN/Key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.

  • Stephen Boots thank you very much, worked like a charm. Outstanding support that is why I have used one care since beta.
