  • Hi,

I have a genuine MS sticker that says MS XP Home Edition on the back of my box.

I don't have the original installation disk and there doesn't seem to be any OEM customisation that I can tell.

I've downloaded XP Home and XP Home SP3 cd isos from my technet account. Both say the product key is invalid.

Is there any way you could tell me why its invalid or what particular version is needed to get the key accepted...

I will send the key if asked, via email. But I'm not comfortable posting it in an open forum.

  • What you need to do is install Windows XP w/SP3 and not initially enter the product key.  After installation is complete, use the  Windows Product Key Update Tool to enter the product key from your computer.  In order to activate, you'll need to use the "activate by phone" method.
