Intro and a problem with accessing the server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Yall, I'm glad to be taking part in this beta test.

After initial installation and a couple days time, I was unable to connect to the Home Server from a PC (Vista) that was connecting and backing up just fine.

The network is setup to not provide dynamic IP addresses and error messages from the Home Server CP say that is the problem.

    • 8 PCs on network - all setup with a static IP address

My Question: Is it a requirement that the network assign dynamic IP addresses to devices for Home Server to function properly?

    Side notes:

    • No error messages are being sent to say that a backup has failed
    • I did experience multiple power surges/blips/spikes since setting up the Home Server
      • PCs are on UPS and did not shut down or reboot
      • I did reboot the Home Server to troubleshoot this issue
    • Can't activate (Network shows connected)
      • IPconfig shows static ip

  • You should be able to use static IPs and connect just fine.  I am doing this at home and I haven't had any issues with backups or accessing the server.

  • I'll see if I can duplicate the problem from home when I get there tonight.
