This Copy of Windows is not genuine, Windows must be re-installed to activate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I'm having a problem with my, Windows Vista - Home Premium.  When I reach the log in screen and enter my password I get sent to a black screen with an error message reading,

"Windows must be re-installed to activate"
"Insert the Windows installation DVD or CD into your computer to begin the reinstallation process."

Then at the bottom right of the screen it reads,

"Windows Vista (TM) Build 6000 This Copy of Windows is not genuine".

All I can do is click close and get sent back to the log in screen.
I don't know what the problem is.  My copy of Windows Vista is completely legitimate.  I purchased it, installed it, and it was working completely fine and then one day it just decided to do this.  I can't even log into windows with the, "Reduced Functionality Mode" because I don't even get the option to use it.  I've had this problem for months and months now, and I would like to be able to use my computer again.

  • Hello Tokipokeypie,

Curious where was your Vista purchased from? Right now it appears the best option is reformatting your system.

  • Hello Stephen,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my problem.  I purchased my Windows Vista from CompUSA, so I see no reason for it to not be genuine.  As far as reformatting goes, I had a feeling it was going to come to this, but I just wanted to make sure that I had no other options before going through with it.

    Thank you,
