Outlook 2010 can't connect because of a botched email account set up. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I installed a new version of Office 2010 and attempted to set up an account into Comcast.net.  Unfortunately, I selected Office as the type of account instead of Internet Mail, and somehow, the setup aborted midstream, but it kept the remnants of the botched account.

I've uninstalled Office and cleaned everything out out using CCleaner, including the .ost file that was created.  After reinstalling Office, I find that there must have been some registry or other hidden files that know what this bad, partial account looked like, and it cannot connect to comcast, therefore, it won't load anything of Outlook - I can't get to the main menu to delete what was started - it simply aborts.

What files might contain the previous information?  Might it be the desktop.ini?  If so, there is more than one, how do I identify the one for Outlook?

If that's not the culprit, what is?

    Thank you
