Live Mesh Not Syncing

Question
-
I've added my laptop and my desktop as devices in Live Mesh. I want to sync my music library from my laptop to desktop which is pretty large, about 20GB. I turned off the syncing for the Live Desktop since I would be way over quota. My laptop that has all the music, kept posting news feeds that it was uploading files. I knew this would be a long slow process. I let it run for 2 days. I have not seen a message in the news feed for a day now.
The desktop which originally had none of the music files, now has the full folder structure synced from the laptop. It also has all of the file names for all of the music, but they are .wlx files. And they have a size of 0kb. Looks like all the meta data was pulled down, but not the actually files. I don't see anything in the news feeds that would lead me to believe the desktop is still pulling down data. I think there was a little spinning symbol for some time showing that data was transferring, but now there is nothing.
Is this just quietly (and slowly) syncing in the background with no indication to me? It definitely feels like it's just stopped and thinks it's synced, when it's clearly not.
Live Mesh looks really cool, if i can get it working properly, should be a very helpful tool!
Laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP1
Desktop is running Vista Home Premium.Saturday, July 19, 2008 3:13 PM

Hi,
I've checked with some other members of the Live Mesh team, and we've determined that it would be most useful in this case if we could take a look at your Live Mesh logs. If you wouldn't mind collecting the logs (from both of your computers) and submitting a bug with the logs attached, we'd appreciate it. Instructions for collecting logs and submitting a bug are in an Announcement at the top of the forums. Once you've submitted the bug, if you can post the Connect Feedback ID here that will help me track this internally, and I'll follow up with you when we determine what's going on.
Thanks,

I'm having exactly the same problem with a laptop running Vista Home Premium SP1 and a desktop running XP SP3 (all updates applied to both). I have two large folders of music and video, that are set to sync to both computers, but not to the cloud.
When I move folders around on one machine, the changes in folder structure appear in the other, interestingly enough. However, the folders on the laptop just contains the .wlx placeholder files, and it appears to have stopped transferring.
It seems like it was working before the July 30th update, but that may be just a coincidence.
I'll collect the logs and submit a bug report.
btw, I really like what you're trying to do here. Keep up the good work.

When I go to my Connect Dashboard, Live Mesh didn't show up as one of the options. I added it, but it says my status is pending, as I'm on the waiting list I guess.
I tried to e-mail the files to the address listed in the bug reports, but that came bouncing back because the attached logs are too large (12.4MB).
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Very similar issue here. Running Vista64 Business on my laptop and Vista32 Ultimate on my home PC, both at SP1. I created a folder called Mesh Sync on the laptop. I then did the same on the home PC and, when Live Mesh noticed that I already had such a folder, told it to tie the folders together and sync them. This left me with the same Mesh Sync folder on both machines. Next, I told Live Desktop not to sync with the data so that only my actual machines would sync. Now for the data. I zip up a 3GB folder, resulting in a 1.5GB file and move it to my laptop's Mesh Sync folder. Live Mesh's news feature catches this change, but only a .wlx placeholder shows up on my home PC. After several days, the file was still 0 bytes in size despite both machines remaining on for the vast majority of that time (full time for the desktop, 10 hours each day for the laptop). Today, I noticed that if I opened the Mesh Sync folder on my home PC, I could collapse the Live Mesh sidebar that appears to the right of the Explorer folder window, revealing a new icon that lets me see what devices the folder is syncing with (perhaps that icon was there all along, but, in any case, I just noticed it). I clicked on the icon and was presented with a display showing how much data had been uploaded and downloaded to the synced folder. It was at 0 (!), but then started counting up immediately as though I'd *just* finally triggered some actual data transfer.Tuesday, August 12, 2008 5:32 PM

Similar here. I have a folder that's synced with home, work, and the desktop. I removed the desktop and added a file (a few bytes of text) to the home machine. Two hours later, it was still only a .wlx file on the work machine. When I re-added the desktop, it eventually synced.
Home machine is behind a simple NAT router, and work machine is at MS.Tuesday, August 12, 2008 7:47 PM -
I finally submitted my logs for this issue right now. In the interim, I moved from Los Angeles to Portland, so my computer was on a truck somewhere. Hopefully it helps!Friday, August 22, 2008 9:46 AM

I'm still having this issue. The last release mentioned that it might fix this, by updating all machines in the mesh and then removing/re-adding the folders to the mesh. I did that, but no dice.
Should I submit another bug report or just sit tight?
Thanks

Hi dishragwhore,
We're still having issues with folders set to sync P2P not syncing at all. The good news is that we've identified the problem and a fix is in the works. The bad news is that we won't be ready to deploy the fix for a little while yet. So the answer is: just sit tight. ;)
Thank you very much for your patience,

has this issue still not been addressed? i simply set up a small folder share, probably 100MB or so, to only sync with my live mesh desktop, and it only synced the couple files in the root folder, did nothing with the subfoldersTuesday, September 30, 2008 11:22 PM

after some more testing, i have noticed that it won't sync subfolders and content on initial setup, but if i add new subfolders and files, it will sync thoseTuesday, September 30, 2008 11:49 PM

Hi prophetizer,
Would you mind collecting your Live Mesh logs and submitting a bug (instructions are in an Announcement at the top of the forums)? The symptom you describe sounds like a bug that we'll have a fix for in our next release, but we'd like to make sure.
Thanks,

Hi Scott,
That does sound like an odd problem. When your boss is at home Live Mesh will indicate that a file has been updated, but the new file does not sync to his computer. First off, how large are the files that aren't syncing, and what speed is your boss's home connection? Also, how long does he wait for the files to sync? (Those are the obvious questions, of course, but we need to get them out of the way.)
There are no special ports that need to be opened for Live Mesh to work, though if there is a proxy server in use somewhere, that could potentially cause an issue. Could you tell me a little more about the setup that isn't working (e.g., the way the various computers are connected to the internet, which computer the updated files reside on - the one your boss's computer should be syncing with)? We also have some known issues with P2P sync, but the fact that the files update on your boss's computer when he's at work lead me to believe that this isn't a P2P issue.
In order to troubleshoot this further, we'd need to take a look at the Live Mesh logs from the three computers. Please see the Announcement about submitting bugs and collecting logs at the top of the forums - if you can collect logs from each computer and open a bug, or send them to lmprev@microsoft.com, we can take a look.
Please let me know if/when you send in the logs, so that I can keep track of them.
Thanks,

Nope..this problem is not yet resolved. I'm facing the same issue on my XP Laptop. I'm collecting the logs now and I'll send them to the bug submission mail id soon.Monday, December 8, 2008 5:12 AM

I collected the logs. They are 12 MB!!!!!Live Mesh Team,Why are the logs so big? How would you expect us to send them over mail? I think my internet connection is going to take very very long to upload the file(before uploading, mail server may timeout). Be smart guys....reduce the size of the logs.Monday, December 8, 2008 5:17 AM

I managed to attach logs and sent them to lmprev@microsoft.com. But the mail is bounced with the following errorThe Postfix program

It's bouncing because your mail provider does not allow messages over 10mb, which is an unfortunate (due to the general speed of the internet today) but common limit.
If you contact me off list (ms -the at symbol- nachmore.com) I'll send you FTP details where you can dump your logs, you'll have to trust that I won't look at them. You can then email MS with a direct link to them.

Hi,
Please open a bug through Connect (instructions are in an Announcement at the top of the forums) and attach your logs to that bug.
Thanks,

Sounds like you should have plenty of bug reports, yet people still have this issue.I have files (in subfolders) stuck only on the Live Desktop that I need on my PC and they are not syncing. In fact, Live Mesh has removed them from both my PCs and they are now ONLY on the live desktop. This is a really big problem. It is a large folder with many files, and I need them. Is there a solution to this yet? What is the problem???Tuesday, December 8, 2009 5:54 AM

You've added to a thread that is a year old.
Check your recycle bin on the PCs for the files that were deleted. Since they exist on the Live Desktop, I suggest that you change the sync settings for the folders to not sync with the PCs, then restore the files/folders (from the Recycle Bin or by downloading from the Live Desktop) and then change the sync settings once again (on the Live Desktop) to sync those folders between the PCs and the Live Desktop. When the folder is offered to the PC(s), click, then browse to merge with the existing folder, accept the conflict dialog and proceed.
The folder should not have been deleted from the PC, of course, but understanding why it happened would require poring through the logs, so you can submit a bug report, if desired.
Note that you really should have a backup of any data in the Mesh on a device or drive that is not part of the Mesh - it is a beta and data loss, although rare, can happen.
