Windows Home Server 2011 - retrieve a....homeserver.com domain using a windows live account

Question
-
Please can somebody help me!
I have a problem getting my server with WHS 2011 computer online.
I tried to retrieve a domain name from microsoft ...homeserver.com, but you have to use a live account. I had one in the past..but do not know annymore what it was. I tried to get a new live account but do not know where. I think it is not the same as my Mirosoft account because I had to fill ....@live.....
What do I have to do ...and wher can I find it.

Hi Gerard,
To integrate a Windows Live domain name with your WHS 2011, you need a Windows Live ID. If you do not have a Windows Live ID, you can sign up for one at the Windows Live Web site. For more details, please refer to following article and check if can help you.

If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps.

Hi Geard,
if you id not use that Live ID for any other purpose than registering the Windows Home Server domain on a WHS v. 1 for longer than one year, it may have ben blocked and therefore the domain is lost by all experiences.
Do you still have your old home server on which you did register the domain? If it is WHS 2011, you can find the used Live ID (now Microsoft account) in the registry - key is AccuntName in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Server\Domain Manager\ActiveConfiguration.
For WHS v.1 it is as mentioned above, if your current Microsoft ID is not the one used for registration, the ID and domain name may be lost.

For Windows Home Server 2011 port 443 is the only one, to which you need to forward.
And then use https prefix to access your domain.
If you try to ping your whs domain name, does it resolve properly to the current external IP address of your router?

Hello Justin,
Thank you very much for your reply.
In the meantime I better understand what to do because I read your hyperlinks.
I have retrieved my old server name back again....by using my Windows account login.....
Logged in on the server and could choose between the old one or retrieving a new one.
The only problem I just have now is what do I have to do to make the server accessible from the outside ( internet )
I read somewhere that I have to open ports (?) on my router..redirecting perhaps (?)
Maybe you can help me also with that..
Best regards,
Gerard

As mentioned earlier to Justin...
I still can not approach my server from the outside..that problem I still have.
I have to open ports(?) on my modem / router.
I use a FRITZBOX!7390....for connecting to the internet
Maybe you can give me advise what to do....
Best regards from Holland,

Hello Olaf,
Thanks very much for your latest info.
I the meantime I am one step closer to the solution using your answer.
But...there still is a problem...the certificate ( computername ) does not match with the ( https://domein.homeserver.com ).
So there is no access
I get the next reminder on my window screen ( Dutch ).
I hope you can help me....
Do I have to change the certificate...if yes...how can I do that.
Do I have to change my server computername ?
Or maybe something els.....
I really don't know.
Best Regards,
Gerard

Hi Olaf
Standard = (werte nicht festgelegt),
CertifikateRenewlnProgress = false,
CertifikateRenewlnstatus = unknown,
Certifikatestatus = unknown, expire Datze = 01/01/001,
ManualModeEnable = flase, Offering = <?XML Version= 1.0 Encoding = utf-16?>
Offering

(we are her in English forum, therefore please use English for communication. Otherwise you could try out the forums under homeserver-blog.de). Also I cannot split the posting within this forum to make it a separated topic as it should be.
If the machine was off for a longer time, it could be that the onboard battery died and time/date/time zone are no longer properly configured.
Time mismatch will also not allow authentication against Windows Live.
If this is not the issue, you should be able to use any Live ID (or now Microsoft ID) to request a new homeserver.com domain or reuse the one, which existed on exactly this Live ID.
Best greetings from Germany
