Money UK Version 11 - HELP Please!!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

my mother in law has just replaced her Windows XP machine with Windows 7 and I have been given the task of migrating her old programs & data. She still manages her money (bank accounts and credit cards) with Microsoft Money. She does not need any of the newer features such as stock updates etc (which are now broken anyway), but she does really need to keep the version that she has.

She must have originally purchased Money 1999 as I can find that disk and manual in her computer stuff, but she must also have upgraded at some point to something like Money 2001(ish). The software on her old Windows XP Machine is Money version 11 and I really need to get a replacement copy.

Can anyone please advise how I might get a copy of UK Money Version 11 to give her back access to her Money files please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    regards

    Dave

  • Install http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26915 which will read and update her data file.

If your mother in law had created a password you will need that to access her data. Without knowledge of her password, if she had created one, her data will be inaccessible.

If the old machine is still available and working you can export her data as qif and import it to the new machine if her password is forgotten.

  • Don't be tempted to install the new version of Money on the OLD machine.  Leave that untouched until the NEW machine is tested and OK.  Assuming the old one is still around.  Also keep copies of the last versions of the mny file and her backups.

  • Hi Dominic,

thanks a lot for the pointer, she will be pleased - more brownie points for me there then :-)

There is no password set, so I should be good to go when I download the update.

    regards
