Windows valid but cannot install WMP 11. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've validated my windows and it is genuine but the WMP 11 I'm trying to install gives a dialogue to validate the windows and it says 'We were not able to validate your copy of windows, click finish to find out why', clicking finish opens a web page where my windows is validated and it says its genuine, and if I run the setup again it gives me the same error. Please help.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Shab,

The reason why you can't install WMP 11 is based on your previous posting located here http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindowsxp/thread/5f0900c8-9f09-407b-9635-7e33c0708966 .  The MGA Diagnostic results you provided us dated 14 June 2009 indicates Windows XP currently installed on your computer was done with a now blocked Volume Licensing Key "VLK" as I previously indicated.

You have a couple options available. First you should have been given the option to "Get Genuine" when you failed both WGA and OGA validation. Here you may purchase an OGA and WGA Kit from Microsoft and become genuine. Next you can take the software back where you made the original purchase and either request a genuine copy of Office or return your monies. Next I would recommend for you to file a piracy report by following the directions @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy. Please locate "Reporting Piracy" in the upper left corner.  Hopefully this will provide you with a solution for the problems you are experiencing.

    Thank you

    Stephen

  • Hello Shab_H

Thank you for visiting the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum. Also I noticed you posted a similar question withing the Windows Genuine Advantage "WGA" Forum. In an effort to focus more attention on your particular situation, I am going to split your post into a new thread.  Splitting threads are done to mitigate confusion caused by more than one posting about similar  topics, allowing us to focus on each customer individually.

Please run the WGA Diagnostic Tool. This will allow us to see what you are experiencing so we may focus on your specific problem. The steps are below:

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.     What edition/version of Windows XP is currently installed or is it another version of Windows?

    ·        Home

    ·        Media Center

    ·        Professional

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

    Thank you,

    Stephen
