Unable to activate Vista after upgrade, invalid product key RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI,

I've bought a Lenovo T60 Thinkpad recently with pre-installed Window Vista Home Premium. The Lenovo delivery package includes a Windows Anytime Update DVD. I was able to enter the orginal system before I used the DVD to upgrade. But after upgrading with the WAU DVD, it asked for a product key to activate the system. I enter the one from the sticker on the back side of the laptop, it turns out to be invalid, and the system won't let me in since.

Here's the MAG report. Help please!

Do I understand it right that, in addition to the DVD, I need to buy a separate digital license to upgrade from Home Prenium to Ultimate?

So if I don't wanna buy a license and just use Home Prenium, how do I restore the computer to the original status before upgrading? Note the system is pre-installed and I don't have a disc for the Vista Home Premium. Can Microsoft help to restore it? Thanks!

  • Q. "Do I understand it right that, in addition to the DVD, I need to buy a separate digital license to  upgrade from Home Prenium to Ultimate?".

    A.  That is correct!  If you use the Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD to upgrade to a different version of Windows Vista, then you must purchase a license (product key) for the upgrade.

If you wish to return your computer to its original Windows Vista edition, you'll need to contact the manufacturer of your computer and ask how to perform a "full system recovery" procedure.
