Activating Live OneCare RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just purchased Windows Live OneCare today.  When I went to activate a product key, I got a message 3010. That said I had no available plan, but in the message it showed I purchased Live OneCare today.  I do have Live OneCare on my PC, it was installed by Circuit City one year age ago.  I tried to renew that account but did not have the passwords or secret name that Circuit City set up.  I talked to 4 different people at Microsoft and the last one said I would have to buy a new subscription.

  • Did you purchase a new retail copy of OneCare on CD? Is you currently installed copy of OneCare "activated" from Circuit City?
When you open OneCare, and click Help/About, what is the subscription ID shown?

If you did not remove OneCare from the PC, you need to do that first, since you do not know the LiveID/Password for the subscription. Then, install from http://onecare.live.com and when it is installed, open OneCare, click Subscribe and use a *different* LiveID to subscribe. If you have a new, unused retail key, you select the option to use a PIN/Key to activate/subscribe. If you are using acredit card to purchase a new subscription, provide payment details.

If you already used the key to renew or activate, you need to make sure that the installed copy of OneCare is using the same LiveID to hook up with the susbcription information - open OneCare, click Help/About. The subscription ID should be the LiveID for your new susbcription. Confirm your subscription status at https://billing.microsoft.com

You can contact support for help with this, if needed.

  • I do not know if what Circuit City installed was on CD.  My current copy of Live OneCare has expired.  When I open OneCare Help/About it shows Version 2.5.2900.24 it states my subscription is no longer active and my subscription ID is the one from Circuit City that I don't have the password for.

After I remove the OneCare from my PC and go to http.onecare.live.com do I go to activate a product key?  (The last time I did this it said I have No available plans.)  Then you said after it is installed , open OneCare, click Subscribe.  Do you mean click Subscribers?   I did get a new subscription ID and received an e-mail thanking me for purchasing Live OneCare.

As you can tell I am not very computer savvy.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Uninstall the expired copy of One Care, run the install cleanup tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/399071e2-49dc-4767-932d-d261e3965943 then install the One Care trial - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/install/install.htm After installing the trial, open One Care, select "Subscribe" and when asked for a Live ID enter the new Live Id and password used to purchase your subscription and One Care will activate.

  • I believe we got it,  the finish OneCare set up said OneCare has added this PC to your OneCare subscription.  Thank you very much for your help.  I have never tried so hard to spend money in my life.  I work on this, off and on for two weeks.

  • I'm glad to hear you finally were able to activate One Care. Activation certainly is more difficult than it should be.
