Change email in activation window RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I am trying to activate my one care but when I click on subscribe it has an emailed saved which is not the email I used to buy the subsciption and it will not let me erase it and enter another.  How do I change the email to the one I used when I bought the subscription?

    Thanks

  • Unfortunately, Veronica, you've encountered a bug where the email address used for a trial copy is unable to be changed when you go to activate later. You will need to uninstall OneCare and then reinstall it to allow you to activate with the correct LiveID.

  • I tried this sggestion, like a gazillion times and it never worked.  indeed i kept resetting my password which was apparently ALWAYS incorrect.  Finally I bought a new subscription, and paid for it and even made out a new live id, and still cannot activate live one care.  I have spent over three hours i do not have trying to uninstall, and reinstall onecare to no avail.  Can i get my money back and try something else?

  • Muskut,

Let me make sure I understand the problem you're having:

    1. You uninstalled & re-installed OneCare from http://onecare.live.com, but the Sign-in Dialog won't let you enter a new LiveId. Is that correct? I just tried it on my machine and it works just fine.

    2. It also sounds like you're having sign-in errors. If you're 'Copying & Pasting' your password into the Sign-in dialog, I suggest entering it manually. There's a bug currently with copying and pasting passwords.

Make sure that you're using the LiveId that is associated with the subscription. Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

I need to update a new computer.

If OneCare is still installed and susbcribed on another PC, open OneCare and click Help and then About OneCare... to see your Subscription ID. That is the LiveID to sign in with.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

If you don't recall the password, you will need to reset the password at http://account.live.com or contact supportfor help with the reset.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate the reinstall.
