Windows 7 validation problem

Question
-
Please someone help:
My parents computer originally had windows vista pre-installed, but due to the timing of when it was purchased, they were entitled to a free upgrade to windows 7 as it had just been launched. This was installed and had been running fine with no problems. So both bits of software (original pre-installed windows vista and upgraded windows 7) are fully genuine bits of software.
However, of late, after automatic updates being carried out, they now get a windows message basically saying that the version of windows being used is not a valid one.
I have gone in via control panel/system/ and clicked on the validation icon. This takes me onto the net where I get the following message:
Files that Windows needs to work properly have been modified, removed, or
disabled. To resolve, you need to install genuine Windows. Not to worry, we can
help you with that.It then suggest that a new copy of windows is purchased at £79 to rectify this problem. Surely this can not be right if you have legit software.
The only other event which has happened which might have had an effect is the new internal hard drive I had to install for them, as the old one was starting to fail. Even though I hasd to do this, this should not justify Microsoft to invalidate my previously fully legitimate software.
What should I do next?

The common cause for these mismatches is a faulty Intel Rapid Storage Tech driver
Download and install the latest version from....
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730
you want this one: iata_enu.exe
reboot then run another MGADiag report and post the results.
