Home Server Connector - "The installation is cancelled" - WSS_ComputerBackupProviderSvc failed to start RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone. Thanks in advance for any help.

My Windows Server Client BackUp Service stopped working on my Windows 7 Home Premium X64 SP1 desktop computer and after faffing about with it for a few day I decided to just uninstall the windows home server connector software. I did this and also deleted the computer profile from within the windows home server dashboard via RDP.

Now the Home Server Connector won't install. I get all the way to  the end of "Connecting this computer to the network"

And then it backs out and i get a message saying:

First things first, what illiterate idiot wrote that error message! The installation is cancelled, Click Close to undo most of the changes that are made to this computer. It doesn't make any sense. It's like someone has tried to translate the Chinese instructions into English!

Any way..... As I mentioned I have a Windows 7 Home Premium X64 SP1 desktop and I have a Windows Home Server 2011 X64 SP2 installed on an HP Micro Server. I have already tried the installation with my firewall and AV off but no success. I've also ensured all updates have been installed including .Net Framework 4 and restated both the desktop and server.

I've also tried to install the connector using a different user profile on the desktop and I've restarted my router. I've also tried to install it using a 4 port 10/100 switch and I've also tried "Install as Administrator"

None of these things have worked and I'm about ready to throw both the serve and desktop out of the window.

    Please help.

    William

  • Hi Don and thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately this doesn't appear to be the issue. The "SYSTEM" permissions were all set to "Full Control"

During the install the computer is added to the list of computers in the dashboard as offline. It then appears to be on-line but quickly changes back to offline before the instillation backs out.

Has anyone got any other ideas. Thanks in advance.

  • Fount this error in the event viewer.... This is the reason I uninstalled the connector software in the first place, because the Windows Server Client Computer Backup Provider Service wouldn't start any more.

  • After looking around I found a post detailing a fix by extending the start-up time for the NetTcpPortSharing service.

I added a DWORD registry entry (ServicesPipeTimeout) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CONTROL and set the value to 60000.

Still nothing... Here's the error from the system log for the Windows Server Client Computer Backup Provider Service.

  • Hi, have you tried the solution: You receive the error “The Windows Server Connector has encountered an unexpected error. Click Close to undo most of the changes that are made to this computer” in the link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3941.sbs-2011-troubleshooting-client-deployment-en-us.aspx ?

Also, you can collect the log file, upload it so that we can help to have a check. Thanks.
