I am receiving Windows Genuine warnings - Windows 7 Enterprise RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

Since 1-2 Weeks ago a window keeps poping up stating that my windows 7 license is not genuine.  I have been using this particular Lenovo Laptop for over 3 years with the same Windows 7 license.  The only event that happened a couple of weeks ago, was that an update failed to complete.  I noted many errors of failed updates yesterday.  The Disk activity is constant and the system response is very slow.  I diasabled today Windows Updates.

Note: I placed this post also in the Windows 7 Enterprise forum.

I am pasting below the results of MGADIAG.  Please help.

  • This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers

try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

The System is been running fine since the installation of the Intel drivers.  The only Issue I have now is with a security update (Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2833946)).  I already have .NET Framework ver 4.0 installed and this particular update persistently tries to run with a "Failed" status error each time.

  • Hi Jorge,

It would help to diagnose if you could provide the error message that is displayed with the failed update.

You could try the manual installation method and check.

    Method 1:

Download the KB from the link provided and save it to your computer preferrably on the Desktop.

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=39411

    Method 2:

Perform a Clean boot and then double click the downloaded file in Method 1 to run the installation. Visit the link to refer to steps to perform a Clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note : After the installation ensure to follow the steps from the above article to set the computer to boot in Normal mode.

  • Your latest MGADiag report looks fine :)

As far as the WU problem is concerned - what is the EXACT error message?

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    CHKDSK C: /R

    and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,

and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, press Enter, and then reboot.

The CHKDSK will take a few hours depending on the size of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally (possibly after a second auto-reboot) -

    then run the SFC.

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Copy the CBS.log file created (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log) to your desktop (you can't manipulate it directly) and then compress the copy and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder (http://skydrive.live.com ) and post a link to it so that I can take a look.

Please download and save  the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file  - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

  • CheckSUR repaired a couple of errors - the remaining ones showing are 'normal' for an installation of IE10.

Do a manual Check for Updates, and see what's reported now.

  • Hello Noel,

I just did the manual update check. It listed the .NET Framework 3.5 update again and I installed it.  The system rebooted once and now it installed sucessfully!.  Windows Update shows now “No important updates available”.  Problem fixed!  I am sharing the screen captures in the link below.

What I wonder is why the windows update system insisted on installing this 3.5 .Net Framework update, since the version actually installed already was v 4.0.

    Many Thanks for your Help!

  • Windows 7 comes with .NET 3.5 installed as part of the OS - so it must be updated in addition to any later versions.

    Good luck!
