I can receive but can't send email

Question

I have a problem with my Windows mail in Vista. I recently started getting email error messages and not being able to connect to the SMTP server. The only cure offered in News groups that I have not tried is turning of email scanning in my ONECARE. Please tell me how to do this. Or failing that, tell me why I cannot connect to the server. Here is a copy of the error message.
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'c', Account: 'Pop.att.yahoo.com', Server: 'SMTP.att.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"
Thanks Russ

OneCare does not scan email. If you turn off the OneCare protection - open OneCare, change settings, you'll probably still have the problem. I believe that I saw an up-tick in messages about problems with Yahoo POP/SMTP mail in the newsgroups, but I didn't review them to see if there is a solution, but I'd check with Yahoo.

Are you using OneCare? If not, you're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare. You may want to try the Microsoft Public newsgroups here: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx
Have you confirmed that the settings are correct for your outgoing mail server?
If you are using McAfee or Norton, turn off email scanning.
If you want to use System Restore - How to restore the operating system to a previous state in Windows XP
