  • Thanks, however. As i stated in my FIRST post i'm very aware the Windows Installation will not pass geniune validation. It is a Virtual Box (as you can see in thePID)

I purchased the Office 2007 professional, i was told it was Office Standard retail. My guess is its a generated key, and therefor not likely Retail license. So thats my question, not if my XP is genuine but what kind of key does it say my office 2007 is. I'm sorry to be so confusing, however i read 30+ posts before i posted, and i posted in the Office validation thread not the windows. I also pointed out originally about XP.

If this is a genuine copy of retail software, its still a bargain. I'm just trying to do due diligence before purchasing anything.

  • Hello chuck2010,

Sorry, we seem to have had a case of "target fixation" on your Windows when you real question was about Office!

This MS KB article tells us that it is either a retail or OEM installation of Office Professional 2007:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928516/

The Pid Type value is "8" but I have no reference material to help figure out what that means.  From experience in this forum I know the a value of "1" is full retail and a value of "14" is volume licensing.

Your question would seem to indicate that you did not purchase a genuine license for Office 2007 though, because if you purchased genuine physical materials (rounded corner package, Certificate of Authenticity, Product Key printed on a yellow-orange Proof of License label, genuine hologrammed installation discs), then you would know by looking what you had.  If you purchased just a product key then you purchased something from someone who had no right to sell it, making it nongenuine by definition if not by Validation report.

  • After a bit of poking around on the forums, i've discovered this.
    <PID>76487-640 -8365391-23347</PID><PIDType>1</PIDType>

I am to assume the 640 stands for Volume License & will be black listed soon.

If this were a retail version as sold to me it would be 335 ?

  • Your installed copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is 100% Genuine.  However, your installed copy of Windows XP is not [Validation Status: Blocked VLK].  Please visit  Genuine Microsoft Advantage and click on Validate Windows.  When validation fails, click on the Get Genuine button to learn how to acquire a WGA Kit.

  • Could someone help me understand the PID system? Does it tell me what type of license it should be?

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

Your installation of Windows XP Pro is a nongenuine volume licensing installation that was done with a widely pirated and now blocked Volume Licensing product key.

Refer to the bolded items above.  Blocked VLK is self explanatory.  You can enter the partially reported product key into any search engine and get a zillion hits, which shows how widely pirated this key is.  The 3-character section of the PID denotes the distribution channel for the product; OEM is of course OEM distribution; for XP, any number 640-649 inclusive indicates volume licensing distribution.  There may be many other distribution channel indicators, but those are the only two I know for XP.  Your installation is not reporting itself as nongenuine because it has neither the WGA Validations file installed (Legitcheckcontrol) nor the WGA Notifications files (wgatray and wgalogon) installed.  Your product key is already blacklisted.

Try going to the Validation site, and validating your install. That will have the latest definitions there, and may show up something that we are currently unaware of.
