How do I get Certified and what should I get certified for? RRS feed

    Hello microsoft forums, this is my first post and hopefully someone can help me out. I've worked with computers pretty much my whole life but I have never been certified. I'm looking to get into the IT field for a bit to get money to move into a better job and go for my masters. But, I'm not sure where to start. I've been researching for a couple weeks now and have more questions now than when I started. I picked up a book on A+ certification because it looked like a great place to start but where do I go from there?

    I looked at the MCITP as something I would like to do but the microsoft listed exams seem a little out of date and leaving me wondering if I will have to retake some exams later on for win7 and also there is such a large list of exams I don't know what ones I should take.

    Someone please help end my confusion.

    You might want to start with the CompTIA A+ and Net+ certifications to get a basic level of learning.  From there, look at 70-680, and then on to Server 2008.  You should have a lab that is able to run Server 2008 R2 (64bit) when you begin your studies for that.

    Would server 2008 lead me to MCITP? and what would be required to get the MCITP? Everything on the list that Microsoft gives or some combination of things?

    Also what about getting CompTIA Security +, Worth my time and money?
