Windows 7 suddenly not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • One day I start my computer and it says it is not genuine.

It has never said this before so I click the option to 'validate windows online'

However that didn't do anything at all (??)

I ran the genuine diagnostics tool and it says slmgr.vbs is missing.

    Heres the full diagnostics readout:

  • Your install is counterfeit.  It is using the stolen Lenovo Product Key (ending in PMJBM) that was blacklisted before it was released by Microsoft and was never valid.  You need to purchase a legal copy of Windows, format your drive and reinstall.  Be sure to back up your data first.

  • that makes no sense (to me) seeing as how it has been working genuine for not just a few months, but years properly.

well this stinks. genuine windows costs a lot.

  • How and when they decide to flag a system that is fraudulent is likely not ever going to be made public.  But the fact is that this Product ID was stolen from the Lenovo factory before Windows 7 ever shipped.  Microsoft discovered that it was in the wild and blacklisted it.  That Product ID has never been and will never be legitimate.  Using a counterfeit version is very risky because one never knows what else has been installed with the fake OS.  There could be malware, spyware or any number of other unwanted programs that run invisibly.  Plus it is only a matter of time before it gets caught and flagged as non-genuine.  There are alternative Operating Systems that are free such as Ubuntu.

  • The reason it's suddenly become obvious is that either an update or a system error exposed or broke the hacks used to make the system appear genuine

I see signs of at least two different hacks present in this log.
