Can CRM be redeployed without using the Redeployment Wizard? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there an easy/supported method of redeploying CRM to a different domain without using the Redeployment Wizard? Can the ActivityDirectoryGUID in the SystemUserBase table be modified directly without any ill effects? Has anyone tried this before; if so, what was the result?

Background: we are moving our CRM servers to a new data centre which has a new domain. We'd like to migrate the CRM databases without using the CRM Redeployment Wizard for a couple of reasons: (1) The CRM Redeployment Wizard changes the OrganizationID, which means that several hundred users will have to reconfigure their Outlook clients; (2) The user and business unit GUIDs get changed, but saved views that reference specific users or business units don't, so users have to reconfigure their saved views.

Does anyone know what else the Redeployment Wizard does? (We opened a support case with Microsoft Premium Support a couple of weeks ago, but we haven't heard much in response yet).

    Thanks, Neil

  • There are so many places where IDs are tied to IDs in ActiveDirectory that while it might be possible, I doubt it would be practical.

  • OK, so a bit of digging around in the OrganizationBase table shows that there are plenty more fields in here to consider: UserGroupID, PrivilegeUserGroupID, etc.
