"This copy of Windows is not genuine"

Question

I am having the same problem as the user in this thread:
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/d721ae82-1264-4883-b28d-71f25a5a13f9
I booted up my computer to find a white screen with "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6000 This copy of Windows is not genuine" in the bottom right corner. I also have options for reduced functionality, entering a different product key, and contacting HP. I tried entering my product key, however apparently it is "not valid". I also tried installing update 931573 (from this help page: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;931573 ), but it is "not supported" on my computer.
In the original thread, the staff suggested three options, all of which involved typing %windir%\system32 into Internet Explorer. However, whenever I click on the reduced functionality version of Windows, only Firefox pops up (which is installed as my main browser, before all these problems). I keep trying to type the link into my URL bar, but only Google pops up instead of any advanced options.
My computer is a 4 year old HP Pavilion, and I have never had a problem like this before. Please help!
I also ran the diagnostic tool. Here are my results:
