OneCare - Reusing a DVD+RW

Question
-
Hey OneCare Experts,
This one is driving me crazy. I'd like to wipe clean my DVD+RW's via the XP Pro operating system and reuse them but here's where the headache begins.
1. OneCare won't recognize a DVD+RW formatted by Nero - logical I guess.
2. XP Pro doesn't recognize a brand new DVD+RW written on by OneCare. Yup - DVD+RW fresh out of the wrapper. OneCare sees it first and then I experimented with OS formatting the DVD+RW. No luck.
3. So, I uninstall Nero and no luck. The OS still thinks the DVD+RW in the drive is something it doesn't recognize.
Advice?
Thanks!!!

Hello, Gene.
I can't answer your question the way you may want, only that my recommendation, based on many forum threads, is to not try to re-use OneCare backup discs. Use DVDR discs and use them once. If you wish to use DVDRW, then use a fresh on for OneCare and when you wish to reuse these discs, use Nero to format the disc.

Why do I need to use a new CD or DVD if the files I have already done and now wish to add won;t fill a complete disc? This could add up in dollars if I have to use a new disc each time. Wouldn't it be simpler and more customer friendly to allow the reuse of a CD or DVD if the customer is using the custom back up or if the express back up wouldn;t fill a disc alreacy used for back up?

If you are using DVD/CD for backups, and the first backup does not fill the disk, when you next run backup, OneCare will add files to the disk before asking for a new one - if there is space available.
The only time you need to use a new disc is when the disc is full or if you start a new/full backup.
I only mention the issue regarding RW discs and erasing them because erasing RW discs is handled differently by different burning software. Further, some burning software doesn't like the format left behind by another program's "erase" operation. Hence, the more reliable solution is to not re-use discs.
If you have much data, meaning that OneCare wants to write to more than 1 or 2 discs each time you run backup, you should consider an external hard drive, which will easier and more cost effective in the long run.

I agree with the other users. You should be able to use CD-RW disks with OneCare and have 2 sets, one with your most recent back-up and another to erase and use again. Microsoft is a large enough company to solve this issue and that's what I expected when I purchased OneCare. Right now the back up process is costly and a pain in the butt.
