Windows 7 Ultimate x86: suddenly not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi There,

I have this laptop going just fine for about a year without an issue. This is media downloaded from technet and a technet license. This morning WGA claims that windows is not genuine. I tried re-inserting the key, no joy. Also obtained a different key from technet and tried that, to no avail.

I've been on the phone with MS (both tech support and technet) and they tell me they don't know why it stopped working, and recommend reinstalling windows from scratch.

    thanks,

    Luca

Yes, but I was already on the phone with technet support for over an hour earlier today. The rep checked that key, said it was a valid one, and should have just worked. I also tried a newly obtained technet key and failed just the same.

However... I just tried running the system update readiness tool (kb947821) and it seems to have magically fixed my problem.

Windows is now activated, and using the same key that it was using all along. I don't get it, but I'll take this over re-installing everything.

The highlighted error above shows that the key in use has been blocked for some reason - I suggest that you contact the Concierge for TechNet and see what they can do to help.
he highlighted error above shows that the key in use has been blocked for some reason - I suggest that you contact the Concierge for TechNet and see what they can do to help.

  • I have exactly the same problem, downloaded software and key from Technet, then as of 2 months ago, I get a Not Genuine message every 5 minutes.  Since I no longer work for my previous re-seller, I no longer have a technet account.  But from what I've been reading from others, it wouldn't help if I had it.. and I'm not spending $200 to get a new key from MS.  Just another MS scam.

Your [previous employers may have cancelled the account you are using, or the keys you are using may be blocked for abuse.
You need to talk to the Concierge at TechNet. There is unlikely to be anything that we can do here to solve the problem, unless it's a software one - in which case you should post your problem in a NEW thread, with an MGADiag report.
