Answers

  • You can use the Command Prompt to enter or change the 25-character Windows 7 product key:

    1. Click on the Start Button and type: CMD (into the 'Search programs and files' field in the Start Menu)
    2. The Start Menu will show 'CMD.exe',
    3. Right-click the CMD.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
    4. In the CMD window, type: slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
    5. To activate windows after changing the key, type: slmgr.vbs -ato

  • YOu almost certainly shouldn't need to  - and there is no such thing as a 'validation key' anyhow.

If you mean your Product Key - what makes you think you need to enter it?

If you are seeing a non-genuine notification, post an MGADiag report...

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

     Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

      - in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
