Questions about PC Backups RRS feed

  • Question

  • 1. How do you tell WHS to delete old PC backups? I configured it to only keep 1 backup, and I even did "turn off backups' for the only client pc connected. After both I ran Cleanup. But the backups still take up the same amount of space. Is this a bug?

    2. I'm running Win7 7000, and I'm going to clean install the RC. Will removing the pc from WHS remove all traces of it, so I can add it again (it will have the same IP, MAC and pc name)?

    3. Since #1 is doing nothing, can I delete the contents of the backup folder ({00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4})?

  • Removing individual home computer backups doesn't have much effect because of the way Windows Home Server stores the backups. For more information about that, see the Home Computer Backup and Restore technical brief on the Windows Home Server Help page.

Deleting the backup database will remove all your backups. You'll then want to reconfigure backup for your home computers. Note that the database will swiftly grow to somewhere near it's previous size.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
