You're off topic for this forum, which is dedicated to Windows Live OneCare.

However, the answer is as follows:

If you have a free Hotmail account, you cannot access it via POP/SMTP and you will need to use Windows Live Mail (http://get.live.com), a free client that will automatically configure http access to @hotmail, @msn, and @live email addresses and keep your mail in sync on multiple computers and the server. You can also use the Outlook Connector to access the account in Outlook - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7AAD7E6A-931E-438A-950C-5E9EA66322D4&displaylang=en (Outlook 2003 and 2007)

You cannot use Outlook Express to access a free Hotmail account unless it is an older account and then it will be via http unless it is a very old legacy account.

If you have a paid hotmail account, you can use POP/SMTP to access your Hotmail account in any email client.

    Servers tab settings:

        Incoming mail: pop3.live.com

        Outgoing mail: smtp.live.com

Account name: Your e-mail address (name@live.com)

        Password: Your password

Log on using Secure Password Authentication: Not checked

My server required authentication: Checked (Important!)

    Advanced tab settings:

        Outgoing mail: 25

        SSL Connection: Checked

  • Hi, Thanks for the above info. I have an older "free" hotmail account and I have access via Outlook. I am currently trying to gain access via a PDA and I need the incoming and outgoing HTTP server settings? Would be really grateful if you could help.

    Many Thanks
