Can I share music in a folder other than the default "Music" share? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all -

Really bumping my head a bunch on this new WHS setup... here's the latest issue:

I have a ton of music that lives under a directory named "MP3 Library" that lives (lived) on an external drive. I use iTunes to manage, play and sync (iPod / iPhone) these files. I want to use WHS to store & backup these files and... if possible... share them to devices capable of playing them across my network.

So I created a new shared folder using the client software (WHS Console), then copied the files from my external drive to the new share, and then mapped a drive to the share (thus tricking iTunes into thinking its "Music Folder" had not changed).

This all worked fine (or sorta fine... still trying to figure out if I'm secretly hosed ). When it came time to share the music across the network, I ran into some trouble.

I see that WHS comes with something called "Media Sharing" who's apparent purpose is to do just what I describe. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get it to use my "MP3 Library" folder instead or in addition to the default "Video" & "Music" shares.

Is it even possible to add or change these folder settings?

    Thanks,
    -m

No. The built-in sharing is wired down to the default media shares, and can't be changed.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
