  • Hello Clown86,

Thank you very much for providing us with the information. Under NO circumstances should you try to download an ISO image for software from a P2P file sharing site, or use a second-hand burned copy of an XP CDROM.  These have been shown to be full of root kits, malware, viruses and who knows what else---you'd be worse off than you are now.  Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and who knows what else.

  • Hello Clown,

    To Activate by Phone:

     a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type slui.exe 4 in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

NOTE: The key to this process is that you need to talk to a Live Activation Rep! When you first call, you will be interacting with an Automated Voice, either select the option to talk to a Live Rep or if there is no option, do not enter any numbers. This should force the automated voice to transfer you to a Live Rep.

    Take care,

  • I tryed online activation, phone activation, contacting a representative, and talking to 2 different people in india about phone activation. they all said I was basically screwed and I never ever activated the oem on any other computer. directdeals said it was a new oem so there was no pre installation on any other computers. if I can't get it to work I might just go with OSX or just pirate software because I got screwed over. I know pirating is not the right thing to do, but screwing over customers just because you are scared of losing money to people that crack software is lame.

  • Clown,

If you DO download an ISO, it may also not validate with your legitimate code.  It involves a media mismatch.  I got impatient and got a 64bit ISO from my neighbor (FTP'd it while I was sleeping), but now I wonder exactly where HE got it.  I have to completely re-install everything when my disk comes from MS, and I'm not looking forward to it.  Hopefully, it's something very simple.  Good luck.
