Why can't I mass update Owner for leads? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a list of 2500 prospects which I'm importing into CRM and I want to assign to reps to cold call.  I tried adding an Owner column and dividing them in Excel first but CRM says that Owner can't be imported.  I then highlighted a bunch once imported, but it's grayed out on Owner so I can't change the Owner from myself.  What do people do in this situation as this seems like a really common scenario?

  • The simplest solution is probably to create a dummy attribute which you populate with owner information. You also create a workflow which, on the creation of the lead looks at the dummy attribute as assigns the owner.

  • Hi,

Check if you have right roles assigned to user for data update.

You can use reassign or Bulk Update to update the owner. Also there is a good tool that you can download to update.

    Hope this helps. Amar

  • I seem to have figured it out by using a Workflow.

  • Thanks everyone.  I do have bulk edit enabled.  The codeplex bulk update tool didn't work, tried that first.  Leon your solution is good and basically is what I need.  What I did was just import them all into CRM then just highlighted chunks at a time and ran a workflow on them but good idea if I wanted to use Excel first.  Thanks!
