Federation just stopped working - no clue why... RRS feed

  • Question

  • ... after did an upgrade to our servers. They just stopped working. No errors in the error log, no events, no nothing. Must be the most quiet pievce of not working softawre I ahve ever seen.

Anyone an idea how the *** to debug federation given that OCS seems to be very determined to keep quiet about what goes on there?

  • What was upgraded and on what servers?  Is Open Federation configured, or do you have one or more specific Federations established?  And are they using external DNS SRV records or are the remote servers hardcoded in the Allow list?  If it's only a single federation have you verified that it not possibly something on the other organization's system causing the failure?

  • Ok, corrections...

    * It is not federation, it is PIC (Public Internet Connectivity). Shown everywhere in the tools under Federation Wink

    * We upgraded from Virtual Server for the Edge Server to Hyper-V.

The network configuration is 100% identical. There are no visible errors in the event log. Stupid enugh, the status of connected MSN users is shown as "unknown".

  • For starters OCS 2007 is not currently supported running on Virtual Server of Hyper-V. With that being said does all PIC connectivity fail or just MSN? Have there been any outbound firewall port changes?

  • oh another thought. Have you tried using the OCS logging tool to check the OCS logs?
