CoreGuardAntivirus Spyware not detected by Windows Defender but was detected by Norton Antivirus RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Norton Antivirus detected the following threat but Windows Defender did not detect it:

    C:\Users\Chip\AppData\Local\Temp\4otjesjty.mof is infected with CoreGuardAntivirus2009

I have been getting popup ads to purchase CoreGuard Antivirus so I think that there is something on my computer that Windows Defender is not detecting.  Can anyone help me to remove the Coreguard adware from my computer???  Any help is appreciated.  I have been deleting the Coreguard message box when it appears.

  • Have you tried running the malicious software removal tool? If not  it can be found on the microsoft site. If that doesnt catch it you can try malwarebytes at http://www.malwarebytes.org download the free version and run a scan. Have you submitted what was found to mse? If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials you can get help with malware removal by submitting a support case here -https://support.microsoftsecurityessentials.com/

  • Windows Defender does not have the full capabilities of an Anti-Malware program. It protects you from Spyware.
For more information on Windows Defender and its capabilities, kindly refer here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx
I doubt that you are using MSE since you have Norton.
As I believe, Norton is a full Anti-Malware product that is capable to catch such intrusions.
