Lumia compatability RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I have searched the web and, whenever possible, around it for a plausible justification as to why a Lumia 800 is not eligible for win mobile 8.1 (and now for the upcoming 10).

My dad is a serious Nokia fan and user, and when the Nokia phones came with Win Mobile he was ecstatic with the possibility (having dabbled with a demo one). I got him the 800 one at the time. He loved it. Everything. From design to the OS. He still does. But saying everything, i was mistaken. He has bad eyes, and the size of the texts and app text was too small, and even on the highest size it was not enough. Upon contact with retailer he said only through 3rd party (paid one) would he be able to increase further (much like I have on my 625).

The L800 has Win Mobile 7.8, and will not get 8 or 8.1? Why? Not even by installing over? (like flashing the phones software)

What is the reason that all Lumia series N00 (where N=Series number) are not eligible for Win Mobile above 7.8? Today still he told me if he could have Win Mobile 8 and/or up he would ditch his current Android phone in less than a heartbeat :P

    Thank you for your time.

  • For help with using your Windows Phone device please post in the Windows Phone forums on http://answers.microsoft.com .

The MSDN Windows and Windows Phone apps forums are for developers to discuss writing their own Windows and Windows Phone apps.

That said, I don't believe your L800 has sufficient hardware to support Windows Phone 8 or later.

Is the dual core processor actually a necessity? Why not provide the ROM for users to test it out at their own peril?
