DNS and DHCP in WHS. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have WHS with DHCP, and DNS on it to a static IP and Its self for DHCP and diabled the DHCP on the router. Do I need to assign DHCP and DNS to point to the server for others to get connectivity from the network?

  • I'm guessing that you're using the DHCP4WHS add-in?  Or, did you go the (unsupported) route of enabling the Server 2003 DHCP and DNS services (via RDP connection)?
If the former:  AFAIK, DHCP4WHS doesn't enable a DNS server.  Therefore, you'll need to enter (in the DHCP4WHS configuration) outside DNS server address(es), or the IP address of your router (which can also perform DNS forwarding.)

If the above isn't quite correct, could you clarify what you're doing, and how you're doing it?
