Backup on non-pool data RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a way to have WHS backup data on a non-pool drive?  I want to add another drive, but keep it out of the pool (it would not be part of the D drive) and have a web site or two, mail and anti-virus files kept there, as well as PST files.  I also would like it to be backed up nightly by WHS.

  • No, there's no way for WHS to back up any data stored on the server itself. It provides data security through share duplication, but there's no other backup mechanism.

You can install non-pool drives, but it sounds to me like you intend to use WHS as a desktop OS, which it's not designed for. And you should be aware that Microsoft recommends against storing .pst files on network shares.
