  • The Product Key currently being used is known as a Keyless Install key.

When installing Windows 7, the user is not required to enter a Valid Product Key.  If the user does not enter a product key during install, Windows automatically uses it's own Keyless Install key.  The Keyless Install key acts like a Trial key that allows the user to use Windows for 30 days.  After 30 days, the user will need to enter a Valid Product Key to continue to use Windows.

To resolve this issue, please click the Start button, right-click Computer and select Properties.  In the Window that opens, scroll to the bottom and click the Change Product Key button. When asked for a Product Key, enter the Product key that came included in the package that the Windows disks came in.

    Thank you,

error 0xC004f061 not licensed for clean install upgrade only, no longer have other windows or any stickers. it has been activated once on this hard drive through calling tech support and giving product id "the 9 sets of six number" .. when called tech support at 866-530-6364 but was told that without previous windows or the sticker from storebought comp there was nothing i can do
Yes, that would be the case - your motherboard is a Retail one, and would require either a Full Retail license to install, or the original System Builder COA and copy of windows - since you have neither you 're not going to get it properly activated.

I can only advise you to purchase a Full Retail copy of Windows (XP, Vista, or Win 7) - if you can get a valid one of the old versions cheap, you can upgrade that with your current Upgrade license.
If you can't acquire a cheap older version, then you're going to have to pay for the Full Retail Win 7 Home Premium.

The WGA Get Genuine Kit is a full Retail copy of Windows - restricted to use on the machine with the 'not genuine' problem.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Your Key has been blocked for some reason.

It's not one of the more commonly blocked MSDN Keys - so there's little we can advise.

Darin may (hopefully) be able to say the reason for the block - and provide advice on how to solve the problem.

What EXACTLY happens when you attempt to enter your Key using either the Change Product Key link on the System Properties page, or the 'SLUI 3' command??

    No - for two reasons.
    1) Anytime Upgrades can only work in activated and validated systems
    2) it's still an Upgrade - you need a Full License
