Windows 7 x64 not legitimate RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a Windows 7 x32 version, via my university (MSDNAA), and then suddenly I received a message that my Windows version was not legitimate. So I formatted my laptop and installed a 64bit version (also free via MSDNAA). I did this last week, and just now I received a message that my Windows version isn't legitimate. What's that all about??

What's also quite intriguing is that all my classmates, who also use a MSDNAA version of Windows 7 are getting the same message...

I saw some other thread about it here, and you asked alot of people to perform MGADiag.exe, so here's the log.

  • You are using a MAK key which may mean that you should talk to your system administrator.

You also have a blocked VLK key for office but that is not the cause of your issue.

Your issue appears to be related (to me) to a program called Vistalizator that is used to enable language packs. If you are using Vistalizator please revert to the original language, uninstall/delete Vistalizator or refer to the vistalizator website for support.

I hope this is applicalbe and helps you fix your problem, however if it isn't vistalizator related let us know and we will continue to help.

    Thanks

    Just as an FYI

An MAK license is one that it 'locked' to a server operated by the License
owner. MAK licenses must connect to the server every (I think) 180 days to
refresh their license, or they get a 'Non-Genuine' message.
It's the License Owner that has to keep track of the licenses issued, etc,
rather than MS (although MS hold a list of the license Keys, they don't,
AFAIK know on which machine they are installed).

This is why all MAK license problems need to be referred back to the issuer,
rather than because of MS or us playing silly wotsits :)

Hope that explains things a little!

  • Thx for the info guys, much appreciated. I'll remove Vistalizator and let you know what happens. I would like to note that Vistalizator is an executable that isn't installed in program files. I runs from itself (don't really know how to formulate this). So I can't really uninstall it. So I'll just delete it from my computer.

edit: I just changed my system language back to the original, which is English. But as I said earlier, the program isn't installed. Anyone has any idea in which intervals that "non genuine" message is supposed to pop up? I just rebooted and there was no message, so perhaps it might be fixed. If anything happens I will post it here :-)

  • Mak is multiple activation. KMS (key managment server I believe) has to shake hands with the kms server every 180 days.

Duh - too many damn painkillers again... maybe I'll just chop the toes
off.... oh - can't do that, they already did that in hospital! :)
I really should check my sources before spouting off like that!
All you ever wanted to know about Keys....

    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/existing-customers/product-activation-faq.aspx

    <quote>
A Multiple Activation Key (MAK) requires computers to connect one time to a
Microsoft activation server. Once computers are activated, no further
communication with Microsoft is required. There are two activation methods
    for MAK:

MAK Independent Activation: Each computer individually connects to Microsoft
via the web or telephone to complete activation.

MAK Proxy Activation: This method uses the Volume Activation Management Tool
(VAMT), which is part of the Windows 7 Automated Installation Kit (WAIK).
One centralized activation request is made on behalf of multiple computers
with one connection to Microsoft online or by telephone. Note: VAMT enables
IT professionals to automate and centrally manage the volume activation
    process using a MAK.

Each MAK has a predetermined number of allowed activations, based on your
Volume Licensing agreement. To increase your MAK activation limit, please
    contact your Microsoft Activation Center.

  • I've ran the validation check, and it checks out! Thanks very much :)

But what I do find weird is that alot of my classmates were having the same problem as me, and they are not using Vistalizator. But anyways, everything is allright on my end!
