Is Email Rourter 4.0 compulsory for CRM 4.0?

Question

Hi,
We are running with CRM 3.0 until now. Now the client decides to go with 4.0 upgrade. upto now we were not using email router for our CRM 3.0. Now that we are upgrading from 3.0 to 4.0 we were in a confusion of whether it is compulsory or optional. We use email in CRM.
I appreciate ur help

You could install Email router at any point of time (when you feel emails are necessary).
Installation can be done on any windows server and it need not be an exchange or CRM server.
You could refer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C54B428B-3565-4037-B4F3-C553F3288C45&displaylang=en for documentation.

it is not compulsory to have email router in CRM 4.0...
but if you to intgrate your support email box with crm queues or you want directly send email from CRM itself then you need to use email router.
