  • Hello belladonna1979,

This is expected behavior for a Trial version of Office when the trial period runs out.  Trials of Office that come installed on new computers are fully functional for 25 uses.  Once that has past, though, it will only do what it's doing now.

The product key it's asking for is a product key to convert the Trial of Office to a Perpetually licensed copy of Office.  You have to buy the product key from Microsoft.  You have probably been trying to enter the product key on the Certificate of Authenticity label on the side or bottom of the computer.  That product key is for the installation of Windows on the computer, it's not for Office.

If you visit this page http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA101936151033.aspx scroll down to the section "Converting your trial to perpetual use" for further information.

If you want to convert the installed Office H&S 2007 Trial to a perpetually licensed full product, you can usually get a better deal that the "standard" Microsoft online price of $149 by buying the retail packaged product at a local retailer when it goes on sale.  Then when it asks for the product key, you enter the key on the yellow-orange label inside the retail package and that converts the Trial to a perpetual product, and you saved time because it was already installed and you saved money because you got it on sale---I see it advertised a lot for $99.  Office H&S 2007 is licensed to be installed on up to three computers in the same household used for noncommerical purposes, so if you have two other computers you can get the per installation cost down to less than $33 per computer.

  • Hello belladonna1979,

The installation of Vista Home Premium on your Toshiba Satellite laptop is reporting as a Genuine OEM installation.

The installation of Office Home and Student 2007 is reporting as a Genuine installation of a Trial license (good for 60 days or 25 uses, IIRC).

Could you be more specific about the problem you are encountering?

  • Hey

Yeah when i try to begin a word document or powerpoint presentation it asks me to put in my product key before i can continue. I can view previous documents but cant modify them or start new ones. It says the product key is invalid but i know its the correct one!

It does inform me i can only use the documents up to twenty-five times before i require my product key -  which isnt working.

    Hope this is more helpful!
