When you select the add device in the live mesh web page, there is a drop box that lets you select the OS type before you hit the install button.
Normally it detects the type of OS you have and selects the correct one authomatically, so it is not probable that you selected the wrong one, but check it.
You should select the Vistax64 OS, as there is no Windows 7 version.
I am having installing it in a windows 7x64, with an errror saying "Live mesh service is unavailable", but I think that it is related to being installing it twice, under 2 different NT and Live ID accounts.- Marked as answer by Stephen BootsMVP, Moderator Monday, December 7, 2009 2:20 PM

You may be using the wrong version of LM. Download the 64 bit version for Vista. I had the same problem earlier on.Saturday, December 5, 2009 7:58 AM

You are correct. Live Mesh can only be installed once on a machine.

I just installed twice, have I messed things up?
I installed under one user (non admin) and ran into a problem getting Mesh updates, so I logged in as an admin user and found no obvious trace of mesh, I assumed it was installed per user and went ahead and installed again. I notice that my machine now shows up as two different devices with the same name. I feel Mesh should install once for all users yet maintain separate mappings, but a common machine identity.

The different NT login's will each have thier own mesh. It sounds like you used the same Live ID for both login's so each is going to show up as a separate device (two NT accounts). You can safely uninstall from the other (non-admin) account due to the problems there of Mesh requireing administrator level user to use it.
Long story short, you're ok, just have one install that won't do much since it's under a non-admin account :)
