More refinment on searches

    Question

  • We need the ability to refine a search more that what seems to be available today. Example I just searched for "Network Controller" in what I thought was the Win7 forum. I received hits that had either word and in any windows forum.

The way you have worded this suggests that there is would be a refinement to
what you entered if you were aware of the possible syntax.   What we really
need is an Advanced Search dialog to help users make use of that syntax,
when they aren't able or willing to figure it out for themselves.

At least there there are alternatives.    ; )

Also, if you want to say something good about the search here, compare it with the search   WindowsLiveHelp  users get.   <eg>

  • Agreed, When searching within a forum it works pretty well, but if no hits are found the default behavior for next search to to pull back to the overall MSDN search layer.  Minimally, all subsequent searches within a forum should remain there.  Let the user naviagate or select other forums in a tree structure.
