This Copy of Windows is not Genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running Vista Ultimate for about 2 years without any issues.  Installed SP2 and it prompted me to reactivate.  I then got the "The following failure occurred whil trying to use the product key: Code:0xc004f050..."  error while trying to activate.  Original key was through my MSDN subscription so I thought maybe it expired.  I went an pulled a new key.  Same problem.  Followed instructions found on this site... rename token.dat... cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc... reboot twice etc.  That seemed to help.

Once that was done it took my new key but now tells me during activation "the copy of windows is not genuine... go online to resolve now"  When I go online it tells me...

    Windows Activation is required.
Windows must be activated before validation can determine if this copy of Windows is genuine.

    From another thread I tried...

    1) Click the Start button2
    2) Type cmd in the Start Search field
    3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe
    4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
    5) Type: cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms
    6) Hit the Enter key
    7) Reboot 2 times

Still have the same problem... This Copy of Windows is not Genuine... go online to resolve.

Not sure where to go from here.  If it is a question of media I can pull down the latest version of vista through my MSDN account but I can't see how that is really the issue.

    Any help is appreciated.
