MS Project Server - blank enterprise fields RRS feed

  • Question

  • Similiar question to Server vs. computer one. What is the proper way to save a file/mulltiple files (to include a master rollup) from a MS project professional 2007 server so it can be reviewed (stand alone file(s)) on another computer that does not have access to the server (but MS proj prof 2007 version). When the schedule files are opened for review, the enterprise fields are there, but are blank. What would be the best way to share these files (without server access) and still be able to view the enterprise fields?

  • Hi SPT-2011

To your question of saving enterprise custom field values in local MPP file, so doing a save as local file does saves all enterprise custom fields except fields having a lookup table associated as those are stored on server and are referenced in MSP, hence while distributing these fields values will be lost, now workaorund could be either manually copying those values in custom fields or by an automated macro which does it whenever required

You have also mentioned to include a master roll up, not sure what you meant by it, but if you mean to save a master plan as a local plan, you can do it but while opening on different standalone machine it would give error for all predeccessors having external links, which essentially is server reference in form of /<>Projectname/TaskID

Since you already have Project Server in place, best way to share the plan i think should be enabling people to review the plan through PWA, using Project Centre + Project Detail views, if there is no editing required , which can be done via IE itself

    Hope this helps
