IE6VPC: WGA Blocks Downloads RRS feed

  • Question

    • Running the ie6VPC image on VPC 2004
    • Host XPSP2 validated
    • Couldn't download updates
    • Installed WindowsXP-KB905474-ENU-x86.exe on VPC2004
    • Identifies the XP IE6 OS as invalid/stolen
    • can't download any WGA stuff, so can't put anything I need like frameworks 2 and 3 on it.
    • Expect many people will never upgrade to IE7 either due to older OS, comfort with present software and limited time/ability tolearn new platforms, or lack of configurability/toolbar carrying capacity and similar issues.
    • Anything I can do to fix this, or will I need to maintain a machine dedicated to IE6?
    • Suggestion, as short term vhd trials of servers and clients looks promising, why not establish a vhd enabling updates for duration of trial so customers can try out partcular technologies on them?

  • In order to recieve the best support, we request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the issue you may be having at a deeper level.

Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response message in this thread.

Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:

    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for? Click here: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
