Windows 7 ultimate comes with Non-Genuine after 3 months ...WHY SO LATE ! It made me lose my money !!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have purchased Windows 7 ultimate off ebay from an Australian seller with all positive feedback.  The disk presented original, installed without a problem and run fine for now over 3 months showing Product Activated and Genuine. Yesterday it displayed "non genuine" !!! Why ?

Option 1 - Microsoft problem ... Please help fix

Option 2 - Product is not genuine ... Why did Microsoft let me believe for more than 3 months that there is no problem and let me believe I have a genuine product for all that time? Now after 3 months I have lost all the avenues for me to recoup my money from ebay/paypal. I am not happy, and I feel that Microsoft should have told me right from the start that the product is not genuine. That would have allowed me to recoup my money. Now I have lost my money because of Microsoft's failure to inform me at the right time the product is not genuine! Why ?

And do consider that the sale was not a buy-it-now. It was an auction stared at 0.99c so the price was set by the buyers beliving the product is genuine. The seller could also be genuine.

Please let me know what's to be done here ?

  • I am willing to bet that each and every copy of windows you purchased from this seller is going to come up as non genuine. Read the following sticky on how to identify MSDN product id's and check all of your computers that these copies are installed on.

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285

The PID portions that reads -067- is a dead giveaway that this is an MSDN key, to check the product ID's simply and easily just press the pause and win keys at the same time and check the number against the numbers described in the sticky.

I don't work for MS, most people here don't. This is not MS's fault, if you want to blame someone blame the crook who sold it to you. It takes time for him to sell the key to enough people for it to be blacklisted, then it takes time for your computer to attempt to validate and get flagged as non-genuine. If MS made it work any faster the privacy crowd of which I am a proud member would be screaming our bloody heads off.

If you really want someone to blame, blame EBAY for allowing these sells. Microsoft does not control what is sold on EBAY, EBAY does.

  • Q.  "Why did Microsoft let me believe for more than 3 months that there is no problem and let me believe I have a genuine product for all that time?"

    A.  Because Microsoft did not know, until recently, the "not-for-resale" MSDN Subscription product key was being sold illegally.  Never purchase software from auction web sites such as eBay!  You are dealing with individual sellers and not reputable, trustworthy entities.

  • I bought a copy of Halo 2 for Windows Vista from eBay and the package was legit. The seal was legit etc.

I wonder if Microsoft might want to package Windows like a game with a sealed DVD case. This is one more way to identify a fraudulent package as the sealing tape can be made hard to counterfeit like the disk.

Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe I also am a true vegan and I am very good with economics and I used to play chess at 2400++ I have lots of papers on my site for power supplies and video card problems, see the resources section

What does it matter, they can counterfeit anything in China to look real.
