Hardware requirements for 500 user environment? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The hardware requirements for OCS seem rather steep, but the supported user base in the documentation is in the thousands. I am wondering what sort of hardware is required to support at most 500 users. What specs are appropriate for an internal server as well as for an A/V Edge server? As for external users, maybe 15-25 users typically. This is would be running standard edition with a consolidated topology, one internal server and once access edge.

  • I don't think the HW reqs are that steep.

A typical OCS server has these requirements:

Dual processor, dual core  2.6 GHz +

    2 x 18 GB

For collocated Standard Edition Server, add:

    2 x 36 GB, 15K RPM, RAID 0, for database log files

    2 x 36 GB, 15K RPM, RAID 0, for database data

    1 MB L2 per core

2 GB  (4 GB for Standard Edition Server or Consolidated Enterprise Edition Server)

    GBit NIC

You can hardly say that this is the top notch system out there

This system supports at least 5000 users so anything less than these requirements are fine but I doubt you will find one that has configured out of the box

So you don't have to worry about server sizing exept if you are going to do a tremendous amount of A/V or Web Conferencing

You probably only need one standard OCS and one standard Consolidated EDGE server
