Testing Project Hawaii OCR RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello everybody,

I just discovered project Hawaii and decided to give it a try for a project my boss was thinking about.

Our main goal, simple as that, is just to take a car’s number.

I successfully registerered in the Project Hawaii Signup web page at http://hawaiiguidgen.cloudapp.net/default.aspx, got my ID and started testing with the SimpleORCapp from the SDK samples.
It seems to easily read printed papers, big signs, brands on objects BUT it is not able to read a car's number. I tried variable distances taking the photos but it never worked.
What's funny is that sometimes it reads the small text under the car's numbers (I'm italian so I'm trying to read plates mostly like this one [front]
http://www.tonioworld.net/immagini1/images/494422nulla.jpg or this one [back, the one with the small text under the car's number] http://laetitiatassinari.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/varie-letizia-2107.jpg).

Have someone tried to use OCR for the same goal? Any luck?

I do hope this is the correct forum/subform: this is a bit clumsy.

    Thanks for reading. :)
